Please note that a scholarship application in addition to required accompanying documents must be submitted in order for your application to be complete. The deadline for all applications is Fri., April 11th, 2025. The scholarships for 2025 are listed below.
Directions
Step 1: This year applicants will only need to complete the Scholarship Application Form ONCE by April 11, 2025 at the link provided: https://form.jotform.com/240286994859073
Step 2: Review the specific scholarship requirements below and submit the required documents to scholarships@ebenezerame.org by APRIL 11, 2025. In the SUBJECT LINE of the email write the name of the scholarship you are submitting the documents for (one email for each scholarship supporting documentation you are submitting). An email confirmation will be sent once all documents have been received. If you do not receive a confirmation email, we do not have your documentation.
Andrew E. Edwards Community Service Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Volunteer at one (1) verifiable community organization.
- Have a total cumulative of 2.75 or better.
- Be eligible for graduation in the Spring of 2025 and plan to further your education as a full-time student in the Fall of 2025 at an accredited college/university or technical school or be a returning college student.
- Submit an official Letter of Acceptance or proof of your enrollment for the Fall of 2025 semester at an accredited college/university or technical school.
- Submit one 500 word essay (single spaced in Times New Roman 12 font) on the topic: “Community Service-How One Person Can Make a Difference.”
- Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from a non-family member, coach, teacher, guidance counselor, or mentor dated 2025.
- Submit a copy of your unofficial high school transcript or college transcript. High School Students – The transcript must include grades from the 9th-11th grade school years and include the cumulative grade point average. Undergraduate Students please submit an unofficial college transcript.
Bishop Benjamin T. Tanner Scholarship Application
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a recorded member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church as of June 25, 2024.
- Be eligible for graduation in the Spring of 2025 and plan to further your education in the Fall of 2025 at a college or trade school.
- Submit two 250-word essays: one on “The Life and Accomplishments of Bishop Benjamin T. Tanner” and one of the following topics:
- “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
- “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
- Submit an official Letter of Acceptance or proof of your enrollment for the Fall 2025 semester at a college or trade school.
Bishop Benjamin T. Tanner Returning Student Scholarship Application
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a recorded member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church as of June 25, 2024.
- Submit a copy of your unofficial college transcript for the current academic year.
- Submit a 300-word essay on one of the following topics:
- Describe how your faith journey has influenced your personal, academic, and career goals. Provide examples of how you have demonstrated your commitment to serving others in your church, community, or beyond.
- How do you plan to use your education and career to make a positive impact in your community and live out your faith? Share specific ways you hope to integrate your spiritual values into your future endeavor
Bishop Richard Allen Scholarship Application
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

- Be a graduating senior from Crossland, Friendly, Gwynn Park, Oxon Hill, Suitland or Surrattsville High School.
- Attach a copy of your Letter of Acceptance from the college or university that you will be attending for Fall 2025.
- Attach a copy of your unofficial high school transcript from SchoolMax.
- Submit two 200-word essays: one on “The Life and Accomplishments of Richard Allen” and one on any of the following topics:
- What Biblical individual influenced your life and why?
- “His Grace is sufficient”
- “How God changed my life”
Kory Alexander Coates Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a high school senior who is a member of Ebenezer AME Church, Fort Washington, MD.
- Be seeking an undergraduate degree or certificate at an accredited college or trade school.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
- Provide a copy of an official college/university or trade school acceptance letter.
- Submit an essay (between 250 and 500 words) to answer the following question:
- Write an essay to describe a time in your life where you faced a challenge that you felt was insurmountable. How did you overcome this challenge?
Isaac Gourdine Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a recorded member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church as of June 25, 2024.
- Be eligible to further your education in the Fall of 2025 at a college or university as an undergraduate student.
- Be a participant in more than one specified Ebenezer A.M.E. Church ministry or activity and currently an active member of at least one community organization.
- Submit one 250-word essay on the following topic:
- Community Service: “One person can make a difference”
- Submit an official Letter of Acceptance or proof of your enrollment for the Fall 2025 semester at a college or university.
Jewels Ministry Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a recorded member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church as of May 3, 2024.
- Submit a typed 250 word essay on the following topic, “How will the scholarship help further my educational objectives?”
- Be an adult student 35 or older. Scholarship support may also be considered for Job Skills Training and Personal Enrichment. (attach proof of age, i.e. driver’s license)
- Submit an official notification of acceptance or proof of your enrollment for the Fall 2025 semester at a college, trade school or community college.
Harry L. Jackson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Awarded by the King’s Men Choir
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a minority male between the ages of 16-24 years old.
- Be a resident of Washington DC, Southern Maryland or Northern Virginia.
- Begin attendance in a college or trade school by the Fall of 2025.
- Submit a 200 to 300 word essay on the topic “The Responsibilities of a Christian Man and Good Student.”
- Provide an official copy of your college acceptance letter, if you are entering your first year.
- Provide two (2) 2024 letters of recommendation from non-family members.
Marsha Eileen Ward Sanders Memorial Scholarship Awarded by The Sanders Family & The Chancel Choir
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a loyal member of Ebenezer AME.
- Attend or begin attendance at a college or trade school by the Fall of 2025.
- Submit a minimum 300-word essay describing a time when you, like Mrs. Sanders, fearlessly faced adversity through faith in God and the lessons you learned in doing so.
- Provide an official copy of your college acceptance letter, if you are entering your first year.
- Provide an unofficial transcript of your grades.
- Provide a recent letter of recommendation from non-family members.
- Provide a short statement about you!
Shirley A. Myers Memorial Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Have a Parent, Grandparent, or Great Grandparent that is a member of Ebenezer AME Church.
- Recipient must be a child, grandchild, or great grandchild of a 3rd Sunday Usher that served with Sis Myers.
- 2025 High School graduate or returning college student.
- Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
- Must write a 250 word minimum essay on “What it means to serve in the house of the Lord”
Rev. Dr. Charles H. Wesley Graduate Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a recorded member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church as of June 25, 2024
- Begin attendance for postgraduate studies by the Fall of 2025
- Complete and submit this application and a 500-word essay: “Name one major problem impacting the African American community and what could be done individually and/or collectively to resolve this issue?”
- Provide a copy of your unofficial/official undergraduate college transcript.
Rev. Donald Vails Memorial Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a recorded member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church as of June 25, 2024
- Begin attendance at a college or university school by the Fall of 2025
- Complete and submit this application and a 200-word essay on Rev. Donald Vails contributions to gospel music and his influence on church worship.
- Provide a copy of your official college acceptance letter.
- Provide two (2) 2024-2025 letters of recommendation from non-family members.
Rene G. Haley Initiative Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

- Be a minority male or female between the ages of 16 and 24.
- Be a Washington DC, Southern Maryland, or Northern Virginia resident.
- Begin attendance in a college or university as an undergraduate by the Fall of 2025.
- Be a member of a sports team or in a sports program at the college or university.
- Submit a 200 to 300-word essay on the topic” The importance of sports as a tool for growth and community development.”
- Provide an official copy of your college acceptance letter if you are entering your first year.
- Provide two (2) 2025 letters of recommendation from non-family members.
Spouses in Transition
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- A member of Ebenezer AME Church, Fort Washington, MD by May 6, 2024.
- Must be the child of a deceased parent(s). Parent(s) do not have to be a member(s) of Ebenezer AME Church
- Must be entering college/university/technical school from high school in the Fall of 2025 and/or a returning college student.
- Must pursue courses leading to an undergraduate degree or certification.
- Must meet the definition of young adult – a student no older than 23.
- A 300-word essay on one of the below topics:
- What my deceased parent imparted in my life.
- Life Lessons learned from my deceased parent.
- I am a better person because . .
Sydney-Chanele Dawkins Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a female writer entering an accredited college for the 2024-2025 school year with a least a 3.0 GPA or
- Be a female writer presently in an undergraduate accredited college program with at least a 2.7 GPA,
- Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from instructors having taught said student and can evaluate her effort and passion.
- Be a female writer who lives in the Washington, DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia area or is attending Sherman Street Church of God in Anderson, Indiana (Sydney-Chanele’s Home Church).
- Submit a 500-word essay with the application. The title of the essay should be “In Ten Years My Writings…”
- Include proof of your enrollment in an accredited college.
Marsha Sumner Memorial Scholarship Awarded by the Pew Ministry
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- You or your family should be a member of a church in the Metropolitan Washington DC area, including Ebenezer AME Church, Fort Washington, MD.
- Be a minority between the ages of 16‐24 years.
- Be a resident of Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia.
- Begin attendance, or are currently enrolled, in a college or trade school for the Fall 2025 semester.
- Have a G.P.A. of 2.50 or higher.
- Submit a 250 to 500 word essay/creative writing submission on one of the following four topics:
- How does being a Christian influence your academic journey?
- Who was Marsha Sumner and what impact did she have on the broadcast community?
- Today, news comes in many forms. How reliable do you think news from social media outlets such as Tik Tok, Facebook and X is? Are there risks to getting news from social media only? Are newspaper organizations a lost art?
- As a future journalist, what methods would you use to ensure integrity is
maintained in reporting the news?
- Provide an official copy of your college acceptance letter, if you are entering your first year, or your unofficial college transcript if you are a returning student.
- Provide two (2) current letters of recommendation from non‐family members; one letter must be from your current school.
Golf Ministry Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a member of a church in the Metropolitan Washington DC area.
- Produce documentation from an educational institution indicating a G.P.A of 2.50 or higher. A copy of the most recent report card would be accepted.
- Be a member of a high school Golf Team located in Prince Georges County Maryland.
- Have a letter of support from your High School Golf Coach.
- Submit a 250-word essay/creative writing on one of the following topics:
- “The Responsibilities of a Christian and Good Student”
- “The Effects of learning Golf Ethics and how it has impacted your lifestyle.”
- Provide evidence of being accepted in a college or university.
Potters House Ministry Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a current or former resident of Ebenezer AME Church’s Potters House Ministry’s Transitional Housing Program or an individual who has been served by Prince George’s County Community Crisis Services Inc.’s shelter programs.
- Be eligible to further your education in the Fall of 2025 at a college or university, technical /or vocational school.
- Submit an essay for up to 250 words on the following topic: How will this scholarship help you achieve career goals,; and financial independence?
- Submit an official Letter of Acceptance or proof of your enrollment for the Fall 2025 semester.
Ebenezer Women’s Resource and Restoration Center (WRRC) Sis Allicia McCutheon-Mason Memorial Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Be a recorded member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church as of June 25, 2024.
- Be eligible to further your education in the Fall of 2025 at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) as a new and/or returning undergraduate student.
- Submit one 250-word essay on the following topic:
- How has your leadership and community service contributed to making a positive difference in your school, church, and/or your community?
- Submit an official Letter of Acceptance or proof of your enrollment for the Fall 2025 semester at a HBCU as an undergraduate student.
- Be a Prince George’s County Maryland Resident.
- U.S. Citizen, African American, Female.
- Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.8.
- Pursuing a Degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, and/or Social Work.
- Two Letters of Recommendations (one from a teacher/professor/instructor or school administrator and one from a representative from your church and/or a community activist).
Usher Board Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS – To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
- Have served on the Usher Board of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church for at least two years.
- Be entering an accredited college for the 2025-2026 school year with at least a 3.0 GPA.
- Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from instructors or youth leaders.
- Submit a 500-word essay with the application. The title of the essay should be “Serving God With Excellence.” Include the following….
- What does serving God with excellence mean to you?
- Share how you’ve made an impact in your home, school, church and/or community.
- Include proof of your enrollment in an accredited college.
