Breast Cancer Awareness Fact
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness, the Health Ministry is asking the congregation to wear pink to worship service on the 3rd Sunday – October 20.
TThe average age of African American women diagnosed with breast cancer is 60 years old, compared to an average age of 62 for white women. One in 5 Black women with breast cancer are diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer, which is harder to treat. This rate is higher than any other racial or ethnic group. There are steps that you can take to lower your risk, including not smoking, controlling your weight, eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
